Teak is both extremely popular and quite rare. Combining an intense interest in teak furniture, flooring, and other furnishing with the fact that there isn't much teak out there has naturally led some manufacturers to use some shortcuts. One of the most common methods is to use teak veneer. Though veneer can be used to create truly beautiful pieces of furniture, it is more commonly used as a cost-cutting method. A thin layer of teak will be fitted over another wood in order to create furniture that is often marketed as 'teak'.
